DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMA is presenting the first solo exhibition "Garden of unearthly delights" by Timothy Saccenti. A notable new talent he has been making striking photography and music videos for Battles, Eyrka Badu and Animal Collective. In this exhibition, based on the story that Tim has been wrtiting personally, he will create a new series of moving images and print exclusively for DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMA.
Exhibit Concept: Garden of unearthly delights
A genesis story of meaning, existence and purpose, "Garden of Unearthly Delights" follows a simple creature meandering through life in darkness, believing itself to be the only object in existence. When the creature sees a mask lying in the darkness, it gains knowledge of time and space. Experiencing a moment that is different from the last sets one event apart from the next. Sensing a figure independent from its own movement allows the creature to understand its size in relation to the world and to other things. Putting the mask on, the creature loses its blindness and sees a symbol in the sky representing purpose. The creature follows a path reminiscent of life toward the symbol in the sky. In a clearing below the light, a tree sits making an allusion to the tree of Life. In its branches hangs a strange pod: a seed of life. A pregnant creature emerges from the darkness and performs a mating ritual with the first creature. A child is born from the creature's realization of a perfect counterpart and an affinity towards the tree and the fruit. The desire of the creatures and the need to fulfill a purpose begets the image of new life. As the child is born, the creatures become immune to gravity representing a contended resolution to their life and purpose.

Timothy Saccenti is a director and photographer living in New York city and working worldwide. Timothy’s artwork is defined by his technique of creating immersive environments for expressing the esoteric through a modernist pop sensibility, tempered by an occasional ironic dose of humor. His visuals create tension by striking a balance between the otherworldly and the familiar, walking a tightrope between the emotional and the cerebral. Using a palette of exquisite art direction, high production values, unique use of color, and palatial lighting, he paints his subjects [mostly bleeding-edge musicians and artists], as archetypes in their own unique worlds, in a style described recently as “baroque futurism”. Whether in a rough, desolate alleyway or a highly controlled studio environment, Timothy manages to create images that transcend circumstances and respond to the subject in a distinct manner. Recently he has focused his attention from still photography to motion direction, creating promos which have made waves in the music video world for respected musical artists including Battles, Animal Collective, and most recently Jamie Lidell, earning him accolades from many outlets such as the coveted UK quarterly Specialten, Fader, Boards Magazine, Creative Review, Videostatic, and Pitchfork Media, as well as entry into multiple festivals throughout the world, including the BUG festival in London, Edinburgh international film festival,Mirrorball, and the Los Angles Film Festival 2008, with his video Battles “Atlas” video winning the independent music PLUG awards music video of the year for 2007. His work recently warranted underground art magazine REFILL to praise, “His crisp, color saturated compositions are marked by stark simplicity that’s unnervingly real. His meticulous, minimalist style has proven to be uncannily effective.”
